The Next Generation of REALTOR®
Draper, UT - At the age of 19, Ryan Mayfield is the Sales Manager for EXIT Realty Infinity in Draper, UT, and couldn’t be happier. “A lot of young people are leery to dive into a career in real estate because of their age, but I am proof that it doesn’t hold you back. I’ve never thought of my age as a draw back, but rather use it to my advantage.”
Receiving his license just over a year ago while in high school, Ryan first toyed with the idea of becoming an agent after his best friend entered real estate school and told him about the possibilities the business offered. He thought about this advice at length, and eventually began his own journey toward a career in real estate as well. His friend, upon receiving his license, joined another franchise competitor; spent money, didn’t sell anything, lost $5,000 in fees and marketing costs and then left real estate all together. “Within months he was left with a terrible taste in his mouth about the business as a whole,” Ryan explains. “But I was convinced that it could still work.”
While in school, Ryan bumped into a friend whose mother worked for EXIT Realty Infinity, and contacted her immediately to set up an interview. “I was sold on EXIT Realty because of the training and the incredible support that was offered,” he said. “But I couldn’t really get serious until after I graduated in July 2007.” In the meantime, he attended the “Infinity Academy,” a week-long, intense training offered by the brokers of his office, closed 13 transactions before year end, and was awarded the "2006 Agent of the Year" for his office.
After graduating, Ryan took a very proactive role, volunteering for every committee and event; even creating a "New Agent Director" position, for which he volunteered. “I will help anyone, anytime, and definitely believe in the ‘get by giving’ philosophy,” he admits. “Management was so impressed with my initiative that they moved me to the brand new Draper office where I was made Sales Manager!”
Over the past few months Ryan has sponsored seven agents, and has developed some unique ways of recruiting that are producing results. “I hold study groups for people in real estate school preparing to take their licensing exam, I prospect anywhere possible, as well as for agents out of the office and talk about EXIT everywhere I go,” he said. “I affirm daily, and live by the motto: ‘I will always do what I say I will, sometimes more, just never less’.
Ryan has achieved success with recruits and clients of all ages saying, “Younger people are drawn to me because of my success, and most people in general are so impressed that I have found a successful career so early.”
