Major Fundraising Success for EXIT Realty on the Rock, NL

National News Anchor, Peter Mansbridge, on hand for the gala

EXIT Realty on the Rock FundraiserEXIT Realty on the Rock in St. John’s, Newfoundland raised $100,000 in one night for Daffodil Place, a home away from home for cancer patients.

Franchisee Anne Squires was the event chairman and coordinator who worked with 19 volunteers, including office agents to orchestrate the black tie gala. The first-class dinner event featured special guest speaker and news Anchor, Peter Mansbridge of CBC’s "The National." The head table included Premier Danny Williams, His Honour the Lieutenant Governor John Crosbie and Senior Vice President of Franchise Sales in Canada for EXIT Realty Corp. International, Ed Martens.

The $150 per ticket event held at the Delta Hotel was sold-out and provided a big financial boost for Daffodil Place. The Canadian Cancer Society launched the Daffodil Place project, which is a $7 million campaign to build a 24-room facility for patients undergoing cancer treatment. Over $5 million has now been raised and the construction of the facility, which is planned to open in 2009, is now underway.

Many patients travel from great distances across the province to get treatment, sometimes for weeks at a time, and have to incur costs for accommodation. Daffodil Place will remove the burden of worrying about the added financial pressure of how they are going to pay for it and will provide rooms that feature the comforts of home along with meal services, emotional and practical support services.
