| May 23, 2012 Excerpt from: Real Estate Industry Challenges and Solutions | | EXIT Realty's Tami Bonnell offers great advice to real estate agents and brokers in this month's The Niche Report | This month, The Niche Report for real estate agents and brokers features this article by Tami Bonnell, President of the US Organization of EXIT Realty Corp. International.
Whether you’re recruiting an agent into your company or selling property, real estate has everything to do with making connections and through those connections, building relationships.
In this rapid fire world of hyper technology, we no longer connect the same way we used to. People broadcast instead of connecting. They add names to long lists and generate drip email campaigns or tweet 20 times a day, often pushing their message out with little regard to the actual person receiving it. We may have 1,000 touches on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn but that number of contacts doesn’t translate into a strong foundation for your business. Ask yourself this; if you were looking for an investment (whether an investment in where you’re going to work or a house you want to buy or sell) would you place your trust in someone who pushes their own agenda? Would you entrust your long term future, your nest egg, the home where you’ve bathed your children, to someone you haven’t connected with? Probably not.
Studies prove time and again that people want to feel like they’re a part of something better. They want to matter. Even infants who are clothed, fed and sheltered fail to thrive in the absence of human connection. As humans we are inherently connectors. As good as video and other technologies may be, if we don’t connect in a real and genuine way, we don’t grow.
So how do we build these connections in the real estate business (and in life)? We do it by adding value. When you add value to someone’s life – genuinely and unselfishly – they feel like they are a part of a larger community. They know that they matter. They feel appreciated.

| May 22, 2012 Excerpt from: EXIT Realty News | | EXIT Realty’s Vanessa Roman to Star in New HGTV Canada Show | A dynamic new real estate show is about to air on HGTV Canada giving insight to one of the toughest questions home owners face – move or renovate? Vanessa Roman of EXIT Realty Metro in Dartmouth, NS will be a co-host of Reno vs Relocate airing back-to-back episodes on Mondays starting May 28th at 9pm on HGTV. The premise of the program follows home owners as they choose between renovating their existing home with the help of designer Robin Lewis, or using Vanessa’s help to find a new home.
“I saw the casting call for the show and it immediately appealed to me. My husband filmed my casting demo with our handycam in our kitchen. I sent the tape to SMS Concepts and the casting director, Sue Skinner called me within an hour to say she loved the tape! I got the job and it’s been a whirlwind ever since. I flew back and forth from my home in the Halifax area to Toronto weekly for months on end, taping for the show. This has been an amazing experience. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to work with such a talented crew and professional production company,” says Vanessa.
“When I saw Vanessa’s audition video, I knew right away that she had something special to offer and luckily HGTV felt the same way. The network has reinforced our confidence in the hosts, format and content of the program by launching with 26 episodes. As with any new show, the real validation lies in the public’s acceptance once the program airs. We always appreciate and are thankful for the support of the real estate community for this type of programming that reinforces the value of home ownership,” says Katie Ruttan Daigle, Owner of Mandolin Media and Executive Producer of Reno vs Relocate.
Now that taping for the show has wrapped up, Vanessa is back in Nova Scotia working on her real estate business and enjoying time with her family. She and her husband Major Jason Roman, a helicopter pilot at CFB Shearwater, have three young children. “Everyone is very excited for Vanessa and the new show. We wish everyone involved with the program the best of success. The largest asset most Canadians ever own in their lifetime is their home, so programs that give insight into the decision making involved in ownership is highly valuable.” says Joyce Paron, President – Canada, EXIT Realty Corp. International. | |

Those heroes include military members, nurses, teachers, firefighters, law enforcement officers and people who make it their life’s work to give back.
They are part of a program that is affiliated with the Minnesota-based Homes for Heroes, a national model that is now in 42 states, including Virginia and Maryland. It’s the first affiliate in Prince William County.
“This is another way to help give back something that’s small compared to what they do,” Cole said of the program and the people it serves.
